  • Microsoft has conceded defeat to Xbox in the console war

The tech giant believes Sony and Nintendo will continue to dominate the market

Analyst Florian Muller and The Verge have examined documents provided by Microsoft to the court ahead of the US Federal Trade Commission hearing. From the materials it became known that the company has recognised the defeat of Xbox in the console war and is hoping for a deal with Activision Blizzard to somehow improve its position in the gaming market.

  • Sony and Nintendo have every chance to continue their dominance, including at the expense of exclusive games, which the same PlayStation has eight times more than the Xbox
  • Microsoft promises that future ZeniMax games will appear on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. The company is going to stick to its strategy of making its games available to a wider range of users
  • Sony is constantly worried that the loss of the Call of Duty series would be a real tragedy for PlayStation and would seriously hit its business
  • Microsoft has repeatedly offered Sony an agreement under which Call of Duty games will continue to be released on PlayStation consoles, but has consistently been refused
  • According to Microsoft, Game Pass is seriously boosting the popularity of projects from independent developers. Examples include Atomic Heart and High on Life
  • The takeover of Activision Blizzard will help Microsoft to increase its market share, improve the competitiveness of Xbox and in general seriously heal the gaming industry
  • Xbox consistently ranks third in console sales, seriously behind Sony and Nintendo
  • Redfall has become a flop. Exact sales figures of the vampire shooter the company does not disclose

Wow, it’s rare to see a company like Microsoft admit defeat in any arena. Focusing on partnerships and broad accessibility might just be the smarter long-term play here.

Interesting strategy from Microsoft to focus on inclusivity rather than exclusivity. Could be a game-changer in building a more connected gaming community across platforms.

Sony refusing the Call of Duty deal is huge. If Xbox can secure exclusive rights or perks, it could swing momentum their way significantly.
