  • Dead Island 2 has been pushed back to April 2023. The team has started the final stage of development

Embracer Group and Plaion have delayed the release of Dead Island 2 by 12 weeks to give the development team more time.

The gory game will not be released in February 2023, but will appear on 28 April 2023 on PC and current consoles. The developers said that the 12-week delay will give them extra time to finalise the game.

The delay had a negative impact on Embracer Group’s profit forecast for the fiscal year. Fans have waited nine years for Dead Island 2 – the game was announced in 2014, then the project changed several owners, went through development hell and was remade into a stylish survival combat game.

“We’re disappointed. The delay is only 12 short weeks and development is reaching the finish line; we’re going to take the time to make sure we can release a game we’ll be proud of. To those of you who have been waiting years for it, thank you for being with us.”

A new Dead Island 2 trailer and gameplay has been promised for 6 December 2022.

After nine years, what's another 12 weeks? As long as they're polishing it to perfection, I'm all in! 🧟‍♂️🎮

Disappointing, but I appreciate their honesty and dedication to quality. Can't rush a good zombie apocalypse! 👍

Nine years and counting. Each delay hurts, but the commitment to quality is clear. Really hoping it lives up to the hype!
