Producer Yoshinori Kitase has revealed why the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake, titled Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, will only appear on PS5.
An excerpt from Kitase’s statement reads:
“Of course, graphics quality is one factor, but there’s also the SSD access speed. Those who have played the original version imagine that the story will take place in the vast world after the escape from Midgar. FFVII Rebirth depicts a world that is much larger, so loading will be a major vulnerability. In order to fix this problem and play comfortably, I felt that PS5 specs were necessary.”
Kitase believes that playing on the PS4, due to the inability to take advantage of fast storage and the speed limitation of the mechanical hard drive, will be a nightmare. Fans will recall that the development team made some compromises, including using lower resolution textures, to run Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4.
